The Skirted Story

Hi! I’m Regan, the creator of Skirted.

I still remember my first undeniable sense-of-style encounter. I was in my university days in Toronto, walking down Yonge Street with a friend — probably on our way to Urban Outfitters, a real discovery for this small-town Alberta girl in 1997.

My friend ran into someone she knew and stopped to chat. She wore a weathered leather jacket and a big scarf, wrapped and draped in that way I could never quite figure out. She was effortlessly cool. Her “old man” trousers and oxford shoes looked perfectly imperfect — styled and careless all at once.

From that moment on, I tried to copy that look but never quite captured it. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized where my effortlessly cool lived.

I found it in a skirt.

In my day job, I’m an elementary school teacher. Without even noticing at first, planning my daily teacher outfits began filling my heart with happiness. The sweet comments from colleagues and kids about my sparkly shoes or shades of pink lace truly inspired me.

Whether I’m teaching, camping, lounging, painting — and yes, even sometimes exercising — my go-to apparel is a skirt.

Skirts are one of my true loves and my silver lining when times get rough — underfunded, crowded, or complex (my fellow teacher friends know what I’m saying). Being a teacher allows me to nurture creativity with kids and learn from nature every day. So much beauty is inspired by the natural world, and my skirts are no exception.

I’m so excited to share my passion with you, and I hope you, too, might find a little happiness in the form of a skirt!

With love,
Regan
